Soup for Seniors

This ongoing project works to connect seniors who appreciate an extra special meal or two in reserve, with volunteers who make the soup, and farmers with extra produce. This is essentially a service with a broad sliding scale from those who gratefully pay to those who cannot. Anyone wishing to be part of this process is encouraged to email us or call. Cooks, drivers and enthusiastic participants needed!

The next Soup for Seniors kitchen is scheduled for February 20th at 11:00am at the South Hall.
If you would like to volunteer to help in the kitchen, or if you’re interested in being on the receiving end of some of the great soup - give us a call.

When we have finished making the soup, we always sit down and eat together, before we begin clean up and packaging. In January we invited Seniors to join us, and it was such a treat, that we would like to repeat it this month. We’ll have a simple lunch, of soup and bread at about 1:00pm, and seniors are welcome to join us.

We have the next Soup for Seniors kitchen on Sunday October 30th at 10:30 at the South Hall. We’ll be joined by some UBC students looking to see how agriculture in community works – we’ll be demonstrating how as small group we can work together to make lots of food. If we have enough volunteers we’ll also be putting away soup for the Solstice dinner at this kitchen.

Update: We made 55 containers of soup, three different varieties: Curried Pumpkin & Tomato Soup, Apple Squash Soup and Borscht.
